mpls l2transport route and xconnect encap mpls

Hi,

What is the difference between the 2 commands given in the subject line..?

I guess both are basically used for binding the attachment circuits to VC in a VPWS scenario..?

Hello,

afaik they both do pretty much the same, except "xconnect ..." is used in FR switching only. This follows the usual FR switching syntax, where you can implement local switching, FRoMPLS or FRoL2TPv3 with the same command, but different options.

"mpls l2transport" is used for EoMPLS, PPPoMPLS and the like.

Thanks for your response.But I am afraid I should disagree with you that xconnect is used in FR switching only.I have seen in cisco documents xconnect is used in EoMPLS..

Both commands perform the same function. However, the 'xconnect encapsulation mpls' command has replaced the now deprecated 'mpls l2transport route' command used to configure EoMPLS.
