mpls over gre on 6500

Hi

Does 6500 support MPLS over GRE in hardware? I observe abnormal CPU utilization in my simple test lab (6500 with Sup720/pfc3b).This fact has discouraged me...

MPLS over GRE is not supported in Hardware for sup720. This is a PFC3 hardware limitation. Your options would be to use SPA-400 or Enhanced FlexWan.

Hello. Sure this post is not an answer  for the question, but a small update.

MPLS over GRE support on 6500:

In 12.2 releases:

• MPLSoGRE on 6500 is supported on SUP720 in hardware, only if CORE-facing interface is SIP-400/FlexWan card;
• and it's supported in software on SUP720 itself (not clear starting of what release).

In 15.x releases:

• support for SIP/SPA is deprecated;
• MPLSoGRE in software is not supported any more (even though you may try a tweak with software switching due to "log" in ACL);
• MPLSoGRE is supported in hardware with PFC4 (Sup2T).
