MPLS/VPN Traceroute Issue

Hello,

I am working now on a MPLS/VPN implementation but before I start working on the real thing, I made a test lab implementation.

Everything was OK on the test lab, so I start working on the real network. Everything is OK, I have made three VPNs and it is working OK, BUT I have a difference between the test lab implementation, here is the issue:

TEST LAB:

On the CE-Router when I use the traceroute I got the following output:

A1#trace 203.1.3.1

Type escape sequence to abort.

Tracing the route to 203.1.3.1

1 150.1.31.1 [AS 3] 28 msec 28 msec 28 msec

2 192.168.3.21 [MPLS: Labels 22/28 Exp 5] 484 msec 396 msec 400 msec

3 192.168.3.17 [MPLS: Labels 19/28 Exp 5] 360 msec 592 msec 496 msec

4 150.1.31.13 [AS 3] [MPLS: Label 28 Exp 5] 232 msec 288 msec 248 msec

5 150.1.31.14 [AS 3] 220 msec * 144 msec

REAL NETWORK:

On the CE-Router when I use the traceroute I got the following output:

CE1.GDL#trace 10.2.1.1

Type escape sequence to abort.

Tracing the route to 10.2.1.1

1 10.1.1.1 [AS 14000] 4 msec 4 msec 4 msec

2 200.52.12.227 24 msec 20 msec 24 msec

3 200.52.0.37 96 msec 220 msec 212 msec

4 10.1.1.5 [AS 14000] 16 msec 16 msec 20 ms

5 10.1.1.6 [AS 14000] 20 msec * 20 msec

*******

As you can see on the lab at the CE-Router I could see the MPLS label at the traceroute. BUT at the real network I could not see the Labels.

On neither PE-router is used the "no mpls ip ttl-propagate" command.

Is this due to the IOS version? or could it be anything else?

TIA

Regards!!!

It could be because of the IOS version difference on the CE router. May be you are running the older IOS version which do not recognize the label information provided by the ICMP messages.

What versions of IOS you are running on the test and the real network, btw?
