%BGP-3-INSUFCHUNKS: Insufficient chunk pools for aspath, requested size 380

Re: NEED to know what this syslog message means

The router uses chunk memory allocation if the Autonomous System (AS) path length is less than 50 ASs (100 bytes). However, the router uses regular memory allocation if the AS path length is more than 50 ASs and returns with the #%BGP-3-INSUFCHUNKS: Insufficient chunk pools for aspath error message. This happens every time the router encounters AS path lengths longer than 50 ASs

This issue is found in Cisco bug ID CSCdr07279. This bug fix allows the router to use chunk memory allocation for an AS path of up to 125 ASs. Once the path exceeds this length, the router returns the error message only once.

Here is the TAC case link for this BUG.

In future if you come across any console messages and error logs you can use this link.

Needs a CCO login with partner privileges.
