Route Distinguisher 0:0 !!!

Hello,

Has anyone seen "Route Distinguisher 0:0"?

I have a setup simulating an Inter-AS L3VPN - Back to Back VRF

configuration.

The problem is that in one of the VRFs, under command "show ip bgp vpnv4

vrf VRF_TEST" I see usual routes under the RD configured for the said

VRF alongwith with another RD 0:0 - which is not configured. There is

another router (redundant) with the same configuration (HSRP), this

router does not show RD 0:0.

Any idea why this irritant? I haven't observed any impact on forwarding

yet.

Hello Maher,

First up thanks for replying..

The 'interesting' part is compounded by the fact that I haven't configured this RD 0:0.

I just have a couple of VRFs, and this RD 0:0, just suddenly popped up after a few days, dunno how and why...

It is not shown in my 'sh runn', since I haven't configured the same, but pops up when I am checking out VRFs.

Also, kindly help me understand what exactly were you trying to point out in your earlier post.

Hi Sultan,

Yeah. Me too. I was eager to know this RD since it's rd 0:0 . Normally start with number range rather than zero zero.

From the configuration, I'am able to see other routes and no issues on the MPLS VPN routing. I thought that RD 0:0 got something weird or else...:)

Hi Maher,

We denied 0:0 for the RD by CSCeh12594, but revert back by CSCei09876 due to customer demand.

Thanks for the info. BTW, does this means that, on cisco router, it shouldn't be configured as rd 0:0 . I dont understand the "CSCei09876 due to customer demand". Can you explain more briefly?

Hi Maher,

There was a change/modification (filed under CSCeh12594) in the code, with that customers could no longer configure 0:0 as RD.

So they complain and we had to revert back the above modification, allowing them to configure 0:0 as RD, again this change is filled under CSCei09876.

The reason I gave this information is simply because of sometimes you may see an IOS version denying 0:0 and sometimes allowing 0:0 for RD.
