VPLS Support

Hi there,

I've been searching the forums attempting to find a definitive answer to the following question:

Is VPLS supported in the 6500/7600 without the use of OSM modules?

The hardware I'm working with are two 6509 w/ Sup720-3BXL and PFC3BXL in each.

Hello,

the OSM is not needed any more for VPLS.

Have a look at "Configuring the Gigabit Ethernet SPAs" for the 7600

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps368/module_installation_and_configuration_guides_chapter09186a0080523f3c.html#wp1143937

and for the 6500

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/module_installation_and_configuration_guides_chapter09186a00805f3741.html#wp1143937

Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

You either need an OSM or a SIP 600 to support VPLS on the 7600.

Hope this helps,

Harold

Is there any new 7600 series router with Sup 32 tweaked for Metro which will support VPLS without the need for OSM or SIP. If yes, can you let me know where I can find some information on that ? This is a rumour that Cisco released this router about a week back.

VPLS is not yet supported on the sup32.

Hope this helps,

Will an OSM-4GE-WAN-GBIC work? Or would I need one of the Enhanced OSMs (like OSM-2+4GE-WAN-GBIC)?

Hello,

if we do believe the documentation then the OSM-2+4GE-WAN+ is required, as stated in

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps368/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00801e5c06.html#wp1338226

Sorry for the bad news.
