A processor memory parity error causes multiple crashes for the 7200 and 7500 series routers

Core Issue

Refer to the Soft Versus Hard Parity Errors section of Processor Memory Parity Errors (PMPEs).

Multiple parity errors are a sign of a hardware failure.

For the 7200 series router, replace the Network Processor Engine (NPE) and the memory modules on the NPE.

For the 7500 series router, replace the Route Switch Processor (RSP) and the DRAM on the RSP.

For more information about parity errors, refer to Cisco 7200 Parity Error Fault Tree and Processor Memory Parity Errors (PMPEs)
