The issue is caused by a Versatile Interface Processor (VIP) crash. The processor is reset and is not used until the next Online Insertion and Removal (OIR) event or microcode download. It is retested at that time.
If a parity error is indicated and the card recovers, a primary cache or Processor Memory Parity Error (PMPE) can be a transient error. If this is the first instance of a PMPE, you can usually safely ignore it. However, if the same VIP experiences a second PMPE, replace the VIP.
At times, replacing the DRAM can also resolve the issue.
If the error occurs again, or the VIP document indicates a separate hardware issue, replace the VIP.
