Alarm LED lit on WIC-1DSU-T1

Core Issue

The alarm light on the Wan Interface Card (WIC) is lit. This indicates a network issue. These are the alarm codes:

  • Red alarm - loss of network signal
  • Blue Alarm - loss of network frame
  • Yellow Alarm - receive from network

Resolution

The alarm LED usually indicates a problem with the line.

The status of the WIC can be seen in the output of the show service-module [serial 0|1] command:

The WIC can be tested by issuing the test service-module command, as shown in the following example:

If the module fails the self test, the problem is a hardware issue.

When a hardware replacement is indicated after troubleshooting, choose from the following options:

  • If you have a hardware support contract directly with Cisco for this part, use the Service Order Submit Tool to request a replacement part directly.
  • For warranty service, contact the Cisco Technical Assistance Center (TAC) directly at 1-800-553-2447,  or online by using the TAC Service Request Tool.
  • If your product is not covered by contract or warranty, contact your Cisco partner or reseller to request a replacement part for the hardware component that is causing the issue.
