BGP is selecting only one path, although more than one path is available

Core Issue

Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) does not perform load balancing by default.

Load sharing is a concept that allows a router to distribute the outgoing and incoming traffic among multiple paths. The paths are derived either statically or with dynamic protocols, such as RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, and IGRP. By default, Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) selects only a single best path and does not perform load-balancing.

For information on different load sharing scenarios using BGP and how to get BGP to select an alternate path, refer to Sample Configurations for Load Sharing with BGP in Single and Multihomed Environments.
