How to configure protocol independent default gateways

There are various ways to configure a default gateway on a router. A default gateway is also known as a default route or gateway of last resort.


To configure a default gateway on a Cisco router, issue these commands:

Routing protocols also differ in the way they propogate the default routes, depending on the routing protocol and how the default route is configured.  For more information, refer to Configuring a gateway of Last resort using IP Commands.
