Module resets and user receives the %SYS-3-MOD_PORTINTFINSYNC:Port Interface in sync for Module error message in Catalyst 6500 Series Switches that run CatOS software

Core issue

This message confirms that the module booting up has synchronized the onboard ASICs that handle the transfer of packets between the backplane and the network ports. [dec] is the module number.

The module reset can occur at unpredictable times or this may be a one time issue.

This problem is identified in Cisco bug ID CSCeb35612.

Resolution

This is an informational message and does not affect any system performance.

If the reboot occurs several times, then upgrade the Cisco Catalyst OS (CatOS) Software on the switch to the latest maintenance release in order to resolve this problem. The software can be downloaded from Catalyst 6500/6000 CatOS System Software.
