Receiving the OSPF: Hello from x.x.x.x with mismatched NSSA option bit message when OSPF adjacency debugging is enabled

Core Issue

The issue is caused by the area parameters not matching.

Resolution

This message is usually accompanied with other messages, as follows:

00:20:21: OSPF: Rcv hello from x.x.x.x area 0.0.0.51 from FastEthernet0/0 x.x.x.x
00:20:21: OSPF: Hello from x.x.x.x with mismatched NSSA option bit

In the above example, area 51 has mismatched the configured Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Not-So-Stubby Area (NSSA) options. Therefore, the area parameters, configured in each of the neighboring routers, must match. In this case the nssa option in each router must match.
