Core issue

The error message occurs when the Fabric controller reports that a fabric channel lost synchronization.

This error usually points to a mis-seated linecard. In most cases, you can physically reseat the linecard in order to solve this problem. In some cases, the module is faulty.

Cisco bug ID CSCsc55949 has been filed for this fabric sync error.

Resolution

There is a recovery mechanism which will try to resync the channel four times. If there is no impact on the switch then the module will be recovered from the sync error.

In order to troubleshoot this issue, complete these steps:

  1.

Issue the show fabric fpoe map command in order to identify the module that causes this error message.

        Switch#configure terminal
    Switch(config)#service internal
    Switch(config)#end
    Switch#show fabric fpoe map
    Switch#configure terminal
    Switch(config)#no service internal
    Switch(config)#end

Note: The service internal command is to generate additional logging messages. This mode is mainly used by the Cisco Technical Support and DE in order to investigate issues on the switch, in engineering mode.

This example is the result of the show fabric fpoe map command. From the output, you can identify that the module in slot 12 causes the error message.

        switch#show fabric fpoe map

    slot channel fpoe

    12 0 14 <<

There are also related errors in the show fabric channel-counters output:

slot channel rxErrors txErrors txDrops lbusDrops
    1 0  1 0 0  0
    2 0 16  0  0   0
    3 0 16 0 0 0

  2. Reseat the module which causes the error message.

In order to take advantage of the redesigned fabric-channel monitoring mechanism, you can also upgrade to Cisco IOS  Software Release 12.2(18)SXE5 or Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2(18)SXF3 or later, which is available for download on the Cisco Downloads page.

For further assistance, use the TAC Service Request in order to open a case with Cisco Technical Support.
