The difference between the new 48-port 10/100/1000BASE-T line card (WS-X4548-GB-RJ45) and the old 48-port 10/100/1000BASE-T line card (WS-X4448-GB-RJ45) on a Cisco Catalyst 4500 switch

Answer

The new 48-port 10/100/1000BASE-T line card (WS-X4548-GB-RJ45) differs from the old 48-port 10/100/1000BASE-T line card (WS-X4448-GB-RJ45) in these ways:

  • It is Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR)-capable, with TDR support available in a future software release.
  • It is more aggressively priced.
  • It is more power efficient.
  • It requires a minimum of Cisco IOS  Software Release 12.1(19)EW or CatOS version 8.1(2) or later.

Note: The WS-X4448-GB-RJ45 can be used either on Catalyst OS (CatOS) (sup I and II) and Cisco IOS (sup II plus, III and IV).

For more information on supported Cisco IOS version, refer to Supported Hardware section of Release Notes for the Catalyst 4500 Series Switch, Cisco IOS, 12.1EW.

For more information on supported CatOS version, refer to Product and Software Version Support Matrix section of Release Notes for Catalyst 4000 Family Software Release 8.x.
