Core issue

The issue may be due to any of the following reasons.

1. This message indicates that a serial EPROM read on a module has failed. The [dec] value   is the module number. The module is powered off.

2. The issue can be due to modules inability to reply to the supervisor Engines management query/ping.

3. This issue occurs when the software image version that runs on the Supervisor  Engine does not support the hardware inserted in the slot specified by the error  message.

Resolution

Complete these steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Identify the module and refer to the   Product and Software Version Matrix section of Release Notes for Catalyst 6500 Series Software Release 8.x for the minimum and recommended software version for the module.
  2. Verify that the version selected supports all modules in the switch and upgrade to the supported version.

Note: The Software Advisor  can also be used to determine a compatible version.

For instructions on how to upgrade the Supervisor software, refer to Upgrading Software Images on Catalyst 6000/6500 Series Switches.

For further assistance and support, open a case with Cisco Technical Support.
