Core Issue

On a Cisco 7200 series router, certain port adapters and I/O controllers may stop passing traffic even though the interface shows them to be up/up. This may be due to a known software issue, addressed in Cisco bug ID CSCds72867

The affected port adapters are the PA-2FE-TX or PA-2FE-FX and the affected I/O controller is the C7200-I/O-2FE/E.

A software upgrade resolves this issue.

Resolution

If a fast Ethernet interface stops passing traffic on a Cisco 7200 router, perform these steps:

  1. Check to see if the affected interface is on a PA-2FE-TX or PA-2FE-FX port adapter or a C7200-I/O-2FE/E I/O controller.

To obtain this information, issue the show diag command.

  2. If the affected interface is on one of these hardware devices, issue the show ip interface brief command to verify that the interface shows to be up/up.
  3. If the interface shows to be up/up, but no traffic is passing, issue the  shutdown interface configuration command.

Next, issue the no shutdown command.

  4. If after the no shutdown command is issued, the interface  starts passing traffic again, issue the show version command. This checks the software version running on the router to see if it is affected by Cisco bug ID CSCds72867.

This bug is fixed in Cisco IOS  Software Releases 12.0(14)ST, 12.0(14.1)S, 12.1(4.4)E, 12.1(5.3)T, 12.0(14)S01, 12.1(4.4)EC, 12.0(14.3)ST, 12.0(14.6)SC and later versions of these trains. This bug is not present in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.2 or later.

  5. If the version of Cisco IOS Software currently installed is affected by this bug, upgrade to a version in which this issue is resolved.
