hello,
Impossible to upgrade with a .tar version of a 3508 with LMS3.1.
The pb is that lms delete the .bin file but not the html directory. So there is not enough space. The job report say that the html directory is deleted but it is not.
A manual soft upgrade works.
log:
c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC14.bin-> deleted
snmpengineid-> deleted
html-> deleted
info.ver -> will be excluded from deletion.
env_vars -> will be excluded from deletion.
config.text -> will be excluded from deletion.
vlan.dat -> will be excluded from deletion.
info -> will be excluded from deletion.
Unable to obtain sufficient free space after deletion.
Regards,
Michel

This is my bug, CSCsu05059:
Symptom:
Resource Manager Essentials cannot upgrade desktop switches such as XL switches, 2950 switches, etc. The error encountered is:
Unable to obtain sufficient free space after deletion...following truncate
Conditions:
This will occur if the web frontend is installed on flash, and the new image plus the size of those old web files is greater than the amount of free flash space.
Workaround:
Manually delete the flash:html directory before starting the software upgrade:
Switch#delete flash:html/*
Switch#rmdir flash:html

You deleted the IOS (.bin) file but you didn't delete the contents inside the html directory.
You have two options:
1. Copy to the 3508 the new IOS .bin file; or
2. Delete the contents of the html directory by using the following command:
del flash:/html/*
Does this help?

Thank you for your answer.
This help me, but I think it is strange that this bug is not corrected since version 4.0.
This could be critical ,in case the switch reload after a failed upgrade , because the bin file is deleted.

The switch should not reload if the upgrade fails. In any event, the bin AND the html need to be deleted from flash to free up enough space to do the upgrade. You would end up doing these steps manually if you didn't use RME. I have fixed this bug, and the fix will be part of RME 4.3 due out this summer.
