6509 - Backplane Throughput Stats?

ED PAQUETTE

Hello All,

We have a pair of 6509s (HSRP), and would like to check status of the backplane utilization.

The "show catalyst6000 traffic-meter" command doesn't work - I get the "This Supervisor hardware revision has no support for traffic meter feature." message.  Here is our list of modules:

Mod Ports Card Type                              Model              Serial No.

As I understand it, we don't have the proper hardware to use the "show catalyst6000 traffic-meter" command to check the backplane utilization -- so what are our alternatives?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

What IOS version are you running? Many of the more advanced show commands require a relatively recent IOS.

According to the command reference, the one I suggested should be supported on 12.2(33)SXI or later.

Try "show platform hardware capacity fabric"

(slide #23)

Thanks Marvin!

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me:

HW1-C6509-1A-01#show platform ?
  buffers        Show buffer allocation
  capture        ELAM/packet buffer capture commands
  eeprom         Show CPU eeprom
  fault          Show fault data
  hardware       Show platform hardware information
  internal-vlan  Show internal vlan
netint         Show platform net interrupt information
  software       Show platform software information
tech-support   Show system information for Tech-Support
  tlb            Show processor TLB registers

HW1-C6509-1A-01#show platform hardware ?
  pfc  Show Forward Engine information
  |    Output modifiers

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Yes, you are going to have to run later code than the 8 year old version you have to get all the shiny commands.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks Marvin - I will pursue that.

You're welcome. Might break your 7 year uptime streak though.
