I'd prefer if LMS would "know" with which protocol the device was to be reached and launch that from the "telnet" link

I believe there is an enhancement request open at the moment to add ssh support to device center.

No there is not due to the fact that most browsers do not support the ssh:// URL specification. While adding it certainly would be possible, it would most likely not work with the majority of browsers. I have tested Firefox, IE, and Mozilla, and none support ssh:// .

To answer the general question, it is not currently possible for end users to add new tools to the Device Center.
