ANI Discovery Metrics

I hope someone can help me out with this one. Over the past couple of days we have been experiencing a problem with our ANI discovery process. It just seems to hang at 9% complete and all of the campus manager windows display that they are in discovery mode.

After the first time this happened, CiscoWorks was brought up to the current IDU release for campus manager. This did not change the up it status. We then un-installed and re-installed campus manager we were able to perform a complete discovery with a couple of seed devices. As we started to add more seed devices the discovery process once again hangs.

I was hoping someone has experiencing this type of problem before and has a solution that I could try to resolve my problem.

Thanks,

John

Re: ANI Discovery Metrics

You may be running into bug id CSCsa18525. Here is the Release-note:

Symptom:

ANI, particularly User Tracking, discoveries may fail to discover certain

elements, or may report that all file descriptors have been exhausted.

Conditions:

This problem can occur in large networks where there are many network elements

(i.e. network devices and end stations or IP phones) whose IP addresses do not

resolve to hostnames.

Workaround:

Add the following to the ANIServer.properties file. On Windows, this file can

be found in NMSROOT\campus\etc\cwsi, and on Solaris in /opt/CSCOpx/campus/etc/cwsi:

Ani.resolve=false

This property will still enable ANI to resolve IP addresses to hostnames;

however, it will only do so using the system resolver.

After modifying ANIServer.properties, restart dmgtd. On Windows, the commands are:

net stop crmdmgtd

(wait 5 minutes)

net start crmdmgtd

And on Solaris:

/etc/init.d/dmgtd stop

(wait 5 minutes)

/etc/init.d/dmgtd start
