PDM is the GUI interface for managing a PIX running 6.3 or below.
ASDM is the GUI interface for managing a PIX or an ASA running 7.0 or greater.
Think of ASDM as a new and enhanced version of PDM - it's the only option if you run version 7.0 or later software on either PIX or ASA (The ASA only runs 7.0 or later, and hence only runs ASDM - PDM is PIX specific).
