I was recently assigned the task of monitoring performance on the serial interaces of a couple of 7206VXR's. Both interfaces are connected to DS3's (M1T-T3+ port adapters). I am looking at CiscoWorks or OVPI (already own) as a longer term solition, but need something in place asap that can poll each interface for error stats such as crc's and alert me when errors increment.
My snmp knowledge is weak, so I am appealing to the group for opnions and advice. Is there a software package available that can help me get this running in the interim before a more permanent solution is available?
Thanks in advance.

See if MRTG is of any use: http://www.mrtg.org
It has its own FAQ's and on-line help.

Don't know about OVPI, but if you have OV NNM and know the OIDs to poll for CRC errors, you can set up Options -> Data Collection and Thresholds to have an OV Event generated when the numbers get beyond a ceiling or floor. Fancier alerting (such as emailing/paging) can be done by having the OV Event call a script.
