Cisco 857 logging

Hi,

I am having some problems interpreting the logs of a Cisco 857 router.

What exactly do these interfaces refer to?

Interface Virtual-Access2

Interface ATM0

And what is the difference between ATM0 and ATM0.1?

This is what is in the log:

000529: Mar 24 13:08:26.839 PCTime: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Virtual-Access2, changed state to down

000530: Mar 24 13:08:26.839 PCTime: %DIALER-6-UNBIND: Interface Vi2 unbound from profile Di0

000531: Mar 24 13:08:27.839 PCTime: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Virtual-Access2, changed state to down

000532: Mar 24 13:08:27.919 PCTime: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface ATM0, changed state to down

000533: Mar 24 13:08:28.919 PCTime: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface ATM0, changed state to down

000534: Mar 24 13:09:43.451 PCTime: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface ATM0, changed state to up

000535: Mar 24 13:09:44.451 PCTime: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface ATM0, changed state to up

000536: Mar 24 13:09:49.707 PCTime: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Virtual-Access2, changed state to up

000537: Mar 24 13:09:49.707 PCTime: %DIALER-6-BIND: Interface Vi2 bound to profile Di0

000538: Mar 24 13:09:51.807 PCTime: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Virtual-Access2, changed state to up

Thanks

Nick

Re: Cisco 857 logging

ATM0 is the physical interface

ATM 0.1 is a sub interface off of this physical.

virtual-access interface is only created when a multilink bundle is up and this interface is not manually configurable and is only present for the duration of the link being up.

Re: Cisco 857 logging

Hi, thanks for the reply.

So am I right in thinking that the virtual-access interface is likely to be controlled by the ISP? and if that, and ATM0 are showing as down, the most likely explanation is the connection from the ISP has been dropped?
