Cisco Cat 3560 Not Responding on SNMP String

Hi,

I have a device Cat 3560. I have defined the SNMP Community Strings as shown in the config. But I Add the device in "CA Spectrum" it fails.

The device responds on ICMP protocol but fails on SNMP protocol. The device is directly accessable through directly connected switch.

Please suggest the wayforward.

Re: Cisco Cat 3560 Not Responding on SNMP String

Hi Taimoor,

First thing to check is if port is open between your server and device. SNMP needs UDP/161 port to be open to respond.

Secondly try to do any generic snmpwalk on device from your NMS server and see if the show snmp has increased counters to verify the packets are reaching and snmp is not responding.

Third try to restart the snmp Daemon, as that fixes the issues most of the time when snmp process isn't responding. To restart snmp process use command :

#no snmp-server

Followed by any snmp related command. Try entering any command which was already on config. This will not impact any previous configuration. Restarting snmp does not removes your existing snmp configuration.

See example:

NMS-WL-6500(config)#no snmp-serv

NMS-WL-6500(config)#snmp-server contact test123

NMS-WL-6500(config)#do sh log | i %SNMP-5

Apr  2 12:45:52: %SNMP-5-WARMSTART: SNMP agent on host NMS-WL-6500 is undergoing a warm start

Cisco Cat 3560 Not Responding on SNMP String

Hi,

I did have the same issue with my C3560X, but i managed to solve the case. some hint for you:

1. Please limit maximum community string around 11 character with only 1 special character

2. Given to specific IOS, SNMP agent will not automatically started when the devices boot-up without SNMP-SERVER configuration file (*this is mentioned within release note), and you probably need to reboot your device

3. Please user free SNMP tools to test community string. Solarwind provide free-tool for it

Regards,

Rano
