Cisco Prime 2.1 patch pi211_20140630_01.ubf install

To the Cisco Prime Community;

I have upgraded and installe dthe patch for 2.1 on the primary server.  Where the HA is concerned, how would thw patch be installed ?  I've tried via the command line and receive the following error;

I received this error several times. Last time I ran a cleanup and copied the file again, please advise.

This patch is not intended to be installed from CLI. You have to update this from the GUI of Cisco Prime Infra.

To install this patch from GUI :

>> Log in to the Prime Infrastructure server using an ID with administrator privileges and choose Administration > Software Update .

>> Click Upload Update File and browse to the location where you saved the patch file. Click OK to upload the file.

>> When the upload is complete:

     a. On the Software Upload page, confirm that the Name, Published Date and Description of the patch file are correct.

     b. Select the patch file and click Install .

     c. You will see a popup message indicating when the installation is complete. You should also see a listing for the patch in the “Updates” table, with a “Yes” opposite the patch under the “Installed” column, and a “Yes” under the “Pending Restart” column.

>> Restart the server by first executing the ncs stop command and then the ncs start command, as explained in Running Commands.

Step 7 Verify that the patch is installed by logging into the server and choosing Administration > Software Update . You should see a listing for the patch in the “Updates” table, with a “Yes” opposite the patch under the “Installed” column, and a “No” under the “Pending Restart” column.

Is your PI configured for HA? Is this Stand-by server?

Yes they were sync'd up prior to;

That may be a reason than. In HA mode, secondary server is unavailable for general purpose via GUI.

But you can access it for some limited features, like this update using :

https:// ServerIP :8082

With this, you will be prompted for the authentication key entered when HA was enabled. Enter it and click Login.

Hi Vinod - take a look at thi if you would please;

Failed to authenticate - Primary(x.x.76.82)Version: 2.1 (2.1.0.0.87) and Secondary(x.x.76.10)Version: 2.1 (2.1.0.0.87) PI version does not match.

It may be because you have installed PI 2.1.1 on Primary and Secondary isn't updated yet.

Try to break the HA and than update and re-sync.

Mornin Vinod,

I went over tp the DC and found the VM the HA resides on, got out my fix it tool known as the hammer and broke the HA VM :-)  Ok ok I'm kiddin.

When I enter the authentication key in the Primary HA config screen I get an error; Failed to authenticate: primary and secondary PI version does not match.  Maybe I should run the install again - what say you sir ?

Hi Vinod - here is an update;

I opened a ticket with TAC and an engineer by the name of Yu Wu spent 5+ hours correcting the issue(s).  Evidently there is a bit of ambiguity within the 'how tos' that I fell into.  That said, this info should probably be read by those dinterested in doing the upgrade in an HA environ.

Thanks for sharing update. Hopefully it will help a lot of other users.

In the meanwhile, PI 2.1.2 is already out, which can be installed on top of 2.1 and hence PI 2.1.1 can be skipped, which should be a little helpful in avoiding such confusion and expecting BU fixed this ambiguity.
