To reset the shell admin password, follow the procedure described here:

If possible change the password without having to go through password recovery?

rgomes,

They're branches off the same tree:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps12239/prod_password_recoveries_list.html

In fact the physical appliance procedure has a cut and paste error by referring to the Vsphere client

Sudarta,

In either case the supported procedure is to boot the recovery CD (physically or virtually). You might be able to hack it from the OS shell but that might also leave your system unusable.
