Hi,

can I use a license file for 2.5.1 when installing LMS 3.0 after deinstalling the old one instead of upgrading to the new version?

Don't think so. The two versions' licensing schemes are drastically different:

LMS 2.5 - 2.6: 300-device & Unrestricted

LMS 3.0: 100, 300, 1500, 5000, and 10000-device

LMS 2.5.1 is a point upgrade, LMS 3.0 is a new release so the licencing as yjdabear stated is incompatible.
