CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1, user tracking acquisition problem on 3750 stack.

Hello.

We are using Catalyst 3750 switch stacks with software 12.2(44)SE. We have two stacks, only one with IP routing enabled.

When we try to run an Acquisition Action on this, from Admin> Collection Settings> User Tracking, the system replies with an error "Failed to start acquisition: Device unreachable. Please enter a valid device".

Device Center reports "success" on all collector status.

Acquisition starts successfully when we try with the other stack.

With LMS 4.1 demo, users acquisition runs successfully.

Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks.

Regards.

Andrea

Re: CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1, user tracking acquisition problem on 3

Hello Andrea,

just wanted to let you know that I have fixed that for our system. I reinitated the UT Database with the following command:

/opt/CSCOpx/bin/perl /opt/CSCOpx/campus/bin/reinitdb.pl -restore -ut -all

It's important to call perl with the full path, otherwise it will completely fail.

Hope this will help you.

Greetings

Which one is failing? The one without IP routing?

I'd say the two most likely causes are

a. SNMP timing out - increase timeout timer to check this; or

b. incorrect credentials set for the device. Easiest way to verify that is to capture traffic leaving LMS server for the device during an acquisition attempt. Look in packets for SNMP string being used. You could also debug SNMP at the switch.

Thanks Marvin.

We already checked SNMP timeout and community without success!

Any ideas!?

Seen something similar when a "@" was used as a part of the community string. Not the case here I suppose?

Did you already try to remove, re-add device?

Hello Michel.

This is not my case, credential test works fine.

We already removed and added again this stack.

With LMS 4.1 demo, users acquisition runs successfully.

A @ in the communityr string will not make the credentials test fail. It can cause the UT to fail though.

if you export the device from DCR in LMS 4.1 and on LMS 4.01 you see the same device type and credentials?

Sorry, you are right!

Anyway, we are not using a @ in community string.

We don't have LMS 4.1 available now.

With the new SNMP timeout we are able to start an acquisition action but UT report is always empty for this device.

Install wireshark on the server. I t does not conflict LMS.

Take a trace on SNMP between device and LMS

Re: CiscoWorks LMS 4.0.1, user tracking acquisition problem on 3

Hello Michel and many thanks for your help.

I'm running Wireshark to take a capture during a User Tracking Acquisition Action.

Reading the first response we can find a correct sysObjectID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.516, Cisco Catalyst 3750 Stack Switch.

The capture looks OK at first sight.  I see a couple of vlans getting questioned Vlan 139,140,142,144,164,832, 835

No sure what UT is asking for as it doesn't look like a mac address getting returned

But If you launch a quickreport, "device matches 10.0.1.116" you still get no results?

Cheers,

Michel
