I have installed Common Services 3.0 on a solaris box, it seems that the installation went well...but i can not browse to the site. When i try , i get your standard "The Page Cannot Be Displayed" error but the strange part is when i browse to http://<ip>:1741 i get redirected to http://<ip>:1741/CSCOnm/servlet/login/login.jsp
so its there and working (to a degree)
How do i figure out why this isn't working?
When i do the pdshow, all the right services show up.
On top of Dave's questions, exactly what URL do you enter that results in the Page cannot be displayed error? Note: IE requires you add an "http://" prefix to URLs that use a non-standard port.
i don't get prompted for a certificate and my browser is ie 6 with java 1.5.x
it works on my primary server running common services 2.2
this is a new server running common services 3.0
I should also note that im doing this through an SSH port forward session...so the only port i have open is 1741
And there in lies the problem. All login requests go through HTTPS to 443/tcp. Therefore, you will need to forward 443/tcp as well.
On a side note, JPI 1.5.0 and SSH port forwarding are both not supported. You can get the SSH port forwarding to work, but JPI 1.5.0 will have real problems with Campus Manager and IPM. You should be running the JPI 1.4.2 version that comes with your current version of CiscoWorks.
Hmmm, that java version was from my browser, but you got me thinking...so i got on my solaris box and typed "java -version" and im running the following
java version "1.2.2"
Solaris VM (build Solaris_JDK_1.2.2_10, native threads, sunwjit)
So you are suggesting that i should upgrade my java to 1.4.2?
No. That is a completely different JVM. That JVM is the one that ships with Solaris 8. CiscoWorks does not use it at all.
ok, i have the following ports open to the ciscoworks server
I am still getting the same error...i browse to 1741, i get redirected to
and get a page can not be displayed error
ok, so this is a good one...and let me clear up the above.
1. I am going through an SSH tunnel, so the actual ports i use on the local host are
21741 = 1741
21742 = 1742
21744 = 1744
20443 = 443
Now, here is what is happening
I type in "http://127.0.0.1:21741"
it redirects me to "https://127.0.0.1/CSCOnm/servlet/login/login.jsp"
so the app sends a rewrite to my browser saying to go to that...now you can see the problem, i need the port to be 20443, not 443, so i manually change it to be "https://127.0.0.1:20443/CSCOnm/servlet/login/login.jsp"
it prompts me with the certificate thing then does another rewrite and puts me back to "https://127.0.0.1/CSCOnm/servlet/login/login.jsp"
This is never going to work if it rewrites my port ever time...am i doomed?
You shouldn't use the IP address of the loopback. You should use another valid IP address or hostname.
As jclarke mentioned above....shh port forwarding is not supported.
You would need to do transparent port forwarding for this to ever have a chance of working. That is localhost:1741 and localhost:443 would need to be forwarded to the CiscoWorks server on the same ports.
That said, applications like Campus Manager Topology Services and IPM Web Client will never work, and you may run into other problems. Your best bet is to create a full layer 3 VPN so all of this is transparent to the client and server.
Thanks guys, there is no way to get the transparent part working so they are going to give me l3 access.
Aside from 1741,1742,1744 and 443, are there any other ports i need open? They have to allow me access through a firewall.
Thanks for all your help with this,
You will need to use the port guide at http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/cw2000_b/lms/lms26/lms26qn.htm#wp1027676 as to what ports need to be opened from client to server.
