I have 2 6509 with Sup720's and I have my CSM in an active standby set up on 2 cores.

what i am looking to do is set up 2 servers that are load balanced but traffic only going to one server. The only time I need traffic to hit the second server is if the first server fails.

Hi

You don't say what version of software the CSM's are using so it's a little difficult to be precise.

Having said that what you can do is

1) put the server you want all traffic to go in one serverfarm eg. sfarm1

2) Put the other server that you only want used if the primary server fails into a different serverfarm eg sfarm2

3) When you define your vserver you can specify a backup serverfarm.

So you tell your vserver to use sfarm1 but if that serverfarm goes offline to use sfarm2.

This backup serverfarm functionality is in the docs. If you have problems finding it let me know the version of code for your CSM modules and i'll send you a link.

Hi Steve

Yes, you should be fine if the serverfarms are on different vlans.

Attached is a link to csm-s config guide for 2.1(x), specifically the vserver config.

Hi Steve

The backup stuff looks fine. Give it a go and let me know how you get on.
