Descriptions of Cards/Modules

Is there file(s) that contains a brief description of what a card(s) or module(s) might be used for?

Does this information possibly come from a MIB or something?

Re: Descriptions of Cards/Modules

It depends on what type of device you are talking about, but you want to look at a couple of different mibs

1) entPhysicalModelName -- will give something like "Generic 1RU Fan"

2) cardType -- from the OLD-CISCO-CHASSIS-MIB

you can also read through the ENTITY-MIB and CISCO-ENTITY-FRU-CONTROL-MIB which have other entries that may be useful

There's not really anything that would tell you what it might be used for...it will usually give a description of the type of card/module it is
