I have an issue with LMS 2.6 / DFM 4.0.7 on windows.
When I try to add a notification group in DFM - Notification Services -Notification Groups the Device Selector that opens does not show anything in the 'all Devices' tab.
If I launch the search option and enter a valid search string I get a result, but after selecting all the items on the right hand side and clicking on the 'next' button a popup states "no devices in Inventory" which is not true. There are 121 known and managed devices in DFM...
A restore of all 3 DFM databases followed by a reinstall of DFM 4.0.7 patch (no uninstall of DFM just a 2nd install of 4.0.7) didn't change anything. Reregister of NOSServer had no effect. If I remeber well there was an issue with DFM 4.0.4 which should have been solved...
has anyone an idea how to resolve this?
Solved! Go to Solution.
This could indicate a problem with DFMOGSServer, or a problem with NOS. Check the DFMDeviceSelector.log for any errors when trying to build your notification group.
Attached is part of the DFMDeviceSelector.log
with some java error and a 'Unable to evaluate rule' in line 19
DFM definitely thinks there are no devices in the system. Is this server integrated with ACS? Does this user have rights to access these devices using DFM?
could you please help to clarify the errors in the log I uploaded to the thread?
Happy New Year,
sorry for the lack of information from my side.
LMS is not integrated in ACS and the local user who wants to do this steps has all permission roles bound to its profile.
Due to the problems I deleted all devices in dfm (gui) and let them be rediscoverd- no change (devices are auto-imported from DCR); I reinitialized all 3 db from dfm - no change;
Whenever you reinitialize the three DFM databases, you must also delete the DFM.rps file. But that is probably not your issue. I have a feeling the problem is related to OGS. You might try running the NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/triveni/WEB-INF/classes/rmkilnerogstable.pl script, restart dmgtd, and see if it helps.
following is the output of the done tasks:
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\MDC\tomcat\webapps\triveni\WEB-INF\classes>"D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin\perl" .\rmkilnerogstable.pl"
Getting the Database User Id and Password
Getting the Database Table Version Information
Database handle destroyed without explicit disconnect.
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\MDC\tomcat\webapps\triveni\WEB-INF\classes>net stop

The CiscoWorks Daemon Manager service was stopped successfully.
D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\MDC\tomcat\webapps\triveni\WEB-INF\classes>net start crmdmgtd

Launching CWLMS - DeviceFaultManager - NotificationServices -
NotificationGroups - Add

>SearchInput - Devcie - Name - contains -
>SearchResults - Select All > could be checked but selection will be thrown when NEXT is selected
>next - ERROR > Please select device(s) for which you want to receive
I start thinking of uninstall (only) DFM completely and do an new installation ....
perhaps the fastest way to resolve the issue, because the customer has not done so many customization...
If a previous reinitialization did not work, a complete reinstallation of DFM may help. If not, you will need to open a TAC SR as remote access may be needed to dig into this further.
I was wondering about the following output line while performing the script
"Database handle destroyed without explicit disconnect. "
Examine the script I found that the problem is related to line 42 and 44. $ret is "1" and $version is empty, so the if clause is never true and the tables won?t be dropped; there is no error-handling (print error message) for this case (which is perhaps a very special one)
BTW, there is an entry in CMF - DB Version for Component=DFM, SubComponent=OGS, but not in DbVersionHistory (only cmf has an entry here)
I will drop the tabels anyway and will have a look on the result.
Tables get dropped, after daemon restart DbVersionHistory now contains entries for CMF,CS, Campus and DFM
but problem still persists...
I opened a TAC SR but issue is still not solved;
Uninstalling DFM and installing DFM 2.0.3 (from LMS 2.5.1) solved the issue. But when going ahead and installing DFM 2.0.6 the problem arised again...
which are the files responsible to show the Device Selector in DFM ...
- ANY suggestion to solve the issue is highly appreciated!
There are quite a few files and process that interact to produce the device selector. What was your SR number?
the SR number is 605020971.
I did a complete uninstallation of DFM and started again with DFm 2.0.3 (other apps still had the LMS 2.6 update).
The DeviceSelector in DFM (e.g Fault History -> Alert Filtering > Search by Group) did have a correct Device Tree
after installing LMS 2.6 update, DeviceSelector in some Tasks of DFM ( see above) was empty...
BTW -I do not find a "kilner" directory in the filesystem but according to some properties files I assume there should be one...- or please confirm that it does not necessaryly exists.
This SR deals with a 7206 problem, and has nothing to do with DFM.
No, there is not a "kilner" directory installed as part of DFM. DFM's webapp (servlets, JSPs, etc.) is called triveni. To which property files are you referring?
sorry I changed the numbers 605029071
there are 2 things I found:
1) kilner directory:
....is there a dir with the name 'kilner' (or a dir-name that contains
this string) in the following path?:
I found some properties file in:
which conftains references to such a dir (like in OGSserver.properties)
I do not have this dir - could this be related to the problem?
2) I am not sure, but I think there is an invalid path reference:
after update to dfm 2.0.6
in ogsLocalGroupsObjectSelector.jsp changed a path in
line 87 from
electorTreeGenerator" /> (that is the path in DFM 2.0.3)
electorTreeGenerator" /> (this is the path in DFM 2.0.6)
BuT there is NO SelectGroupObjectSelectorTreeGenerator, OnLY
in this directory (which I think it refers to):
If the target path I mention above is the one that relies to the one listed in
the jsp file, the requested file is not there!
I looked over this SR, but you're missing some vital logs. You need to get the DFMOGSServer and DFMOGSClient logs after enabling debugging.
As for the JSP and config files, they are fine. These classes and directories can be found in various jar files. But just to make sure, which ogs*.jar files do you have under NMSROOT/MDC/tomcat/webapps/triveni/WEB-INF/lib? What are their MD5 checksums?
I just updated the case with the DFMOGSxx.logs of both DFM 2.03 version and DFM 2.0.6 version
attached to this thread there are 2 info files containing file information of both DFM 2.0.6 and Dfm 2.0.3
currently I cannot give you the MD5 checksum, but hope I can do so tomorrow.
Customer tested successfully the patch you wrote!!!
Thanks for you efforts - I just arrived at the point to cast doubts on that whole installation - as it seems that nobody else has to deal with this issue before...
