I want to make sure I understand this correctly. Does the command to enable SNMP syslog traps allow syslog messages to be directed to the IP address of the snmp-server host?
I think it does but I want to make sure.
The problem I see with this is that not all IOS or CatOSes support this command.
I'm I correct with this statement or not?

It depends on the feature set and the platform
Try the MIB Locator Tool and the MIBs Supported by non IOS Products, both of which are at:

You are correct on both counts. Basically the syslog messages will be converted into SNMP traps as well.
The SNMP traps are defined in the CISCO-SYSLOG-MIB.
With older versions of IOS, to enable syslog traps, an enterprise feature set image was required.

Yes the command:
snmp-server enable traps syslog
will send syslog messages as traps to the snmp host defined.
You would need to check the individual devices and CatOS/IOS for support.

OK. Thanks for the responses from both of you.
Can you tell me what version of IOS this came out in? I guess what version of CatOS this came out in as well since there are still several hundred devices running CatOS.
