ErrorRate/DiscardRate

How does DFM get these counters? I keep getting alerted on high discard rates and error rates on etherchannel interfaces...but I'm not seeing any errors or dropped packets on them when I log on to the switch.

Re: ErrorRate/DiscardRate

High Discard rate is calculated using the formula:

HighDiscardRate = ( InputPacketDiscardPct > DiscardThreshold || OutputPacketDiscardPct > DiscardThreshold)

A discard rate is calculated using:

PacketDiscardRate / PacketQueueRate * 100

The discard rate is built using if{In,Out}Discards over the polling interval. The packet queue rate is build using if{In,Out}UcastPkts + if{In,Out}NUcastPkts + if{In,Out}Discards over the polling interval.

HighErrorRate is built using the formula:

(InputPacketErrorPct > ErrorThreshold || OutputPacketErrorPct > ErrorThreshold)

The PacketErrorPct is built using:

PacketErrorRate / PacketRate * 100

PacketRate is either the input or output utilization, and PacketErrorRate uses the following objects based on the interface type:

if{In,Out}Errors

dot3StatsFCSErrors

dot3StatsInternalMacReceiveErrors

dot3StatsAlignmentErrors

dot3StatsFrameTooLongs

dot3StatsCarrierSenseErrors

dot3StatsInternalMacTransmitErrors
