Garbled text on console

Hello forum mates, I request your assistance to help troubleshoot a problem with garbled console text on a Cisco EMC MDS 9222i multiservice switch connected through a cyclades ACS48 console server.

This is what I see as my login prompt:

k4é§M:c¡ÓÓ¶·:ÿkLðEM

k4é§M:c¡ÓÓ¶·:ÿkLðEM

First of all, if I direct connect a rollover cable to the 9222i's console port, the text comes out clear. So thus, I believed it to be an issue with the console server port; the settings on the port where the MDS 9222i's console was connected are set to the classic 9600/8/None/1/off. I tried the patch cable in other ports with this same setting on this cyclades, and still received the garbled text, so the problem is following the cable. I swapped cables, used new cyclades dongles with no success. I then ran a direct line to the 9222i to rule out the patch panels in between source and destination, and got the same garbled text! In my environment, I have another cyclades with another MDS 9222i (who's console works fine through the cyclades); I tried swapping the patch cable from this known good 9222i console to the cyclades that is giving garbled text, and I saw the text come out clean. Then I tried the console on the 9222i I am troubleshooting into the known good cyclades port and saw the text garbled.

This is when I concluded it was an issue with the terminal emulation on the 9222i.

I tried comparing show terminal outputs from both 9222i's, but they were the same settings. Then there was more granular information such as show terminal internal info providing these two outputs:

I see a difference in the VmSize and VmRSS values. Would this be the cause of the garbled console through the cyclades?

thanks,
