High utilisation alert

Hi ,

I am receiving alerts from a 6509 switch with the following content as high utilisation.

ALERT ID = 00002GZ

TIME = Sun 04-Nov-2007 08:41:29 AST

STATUS = Active

SEVERITY = Critical

MANAGED OBJECT = 10.10.0.1

MANAGED OBJECT TYPE = Switches and Hubs EVENT DESCRIPTION =

PSR-10.10.0.1/1:HighUtilization;

192.168.190.6 [10.10.0.1]:Unresponsive; 86.36.87.6

[10.10.0.1]:Unresponsive; CUSTOMER IDENTIFICATION = 1

when logged into the switch and the process utilisation was verified, the

"SNMP ENGINE" is utilising almost 80%.

Does someone have a solution for this?

with thanks

Re: High utilisation alert

The simplest cause is that something is polling this switch with SNMP a lot. Since the CPU is already high, running "debug snmp packet" would be bad. However, if you can, get a sniffer trace to confirm if the problem is external polling. If it is, throttle the polling from the source, or apply some SNMP access-lists to prevent the polling.
