IT Infrastructure Nomenclature

Hello,

I am trying to put together naming standards for infrastructure artifacts with the aim of automating our infrastructure builds from networks and os to applications using a single build process that can be configured and maintained in a consistent way by networks, os and application teams.

I would like to know if anyone has naming conventions for network artifacts and devices for example VLAN names, NICs, Routers, Load balancers etc, etc.

I have bloged the process for creating an IT Infrastructure Nomenclature for machines names and environment names (read applications and middleware) and would like to know if anyone can help with the network tier.

If anyone has strong, justifiable, opinions on naming standards for these infrastructure artifacts please let me know.
