Hi,

We have manually added about 3500 devices in LMS3.2.1, and these are managed by RME + CM. As always changes happening in our estate, we want to enable the device discovery in LMS, so that all new devices automatically appear in DCR. Please advise in below queries;

  1. Shall we just turned on the discovery feature and it will work with existing devices, or we have to remove existing devices and then turn on discovery.
  2. Which ports should be allowed in firewalls, so that CiscoWorks can talk with devices.
  3. Do we have to configure something special in devices, that required for discovery.
  4. We want that CiscoWorks discover the devices on subnet basis. Is it possible.
  5. Please advise the best approach.

Thanks. We are using LMS 3.2.1

Hi,

2.  Go ahead and run a discovery.  Keep in mind the option to update display names.

4.  Here is the list of ports used by LMS.

6.  You must at least enable SNMP in order for the device to be discovered.  On the LMS side you will probably want to investigate credential sets if your devices are not uniform.  Here is a link to Managing Devices and Credentials.

8.  Yes.  Common Services > Device and Credentials > Device Discovery > Discovery Settings > Ping Sweep on IP Range

10.  Here is a good article that addresses your last question:  Understanding LAN Management Solution (LMS) Discovery.

Thanks.
