LMS CDP

Hi,

Please tell what will be the impact of LMS modules if I remove CDP from my network completely.

Will the discovery and Campus manger be able to work properly?

-Thanks

Re: LMS CDP

You can disable CDP and use other protocols for the common services discovery

The network administrator can discover the devices using different protocols, such as Cisco Discovery Protocol, BGP, OSPF, Address Resolution Protocol (ARP), HSRP, cluster, routing table, and ping sweep on IP range, that are activated at different layers of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model in the device.

Re: LMS CDP

If one uses a non-CDP-based discovery method, will Campus Manager continue to ascertain the adjacency relationship between devices?

Would not having CDP also break the L2/L3 trace functionality?

Re: LMS CDP

Yes, not having CDP will break Campus Manager. The Path Analysis piece was removed from LMS 3.1 and onward, but Data Collection still relies on CDP to build the topology map. Without it, all the devices in DCR will simply appear as unconnected, and many of the features of Campus (e.g. trunk port configuration, discrepancies, etc.) will not work.
