Logged messages Question -

This is an off-the-wall question but I'm gonna' ask it anyway....

Does anyone have any idea how many different logged messages there are?

I'm sure this is going to be a very high number in the hundreds or even in the thousands!

I know it would be next to impossible to say there are exactly xxxx different messages. I would settle for an approximation. For example, there are approximately xxxx number of messages that can come for IOS devices and there are approximately xxxx number of messages that can come from CatOS devices. Remember, there are a 7 different severity levels. I'm looking for an approximation between all severity levels.

There are too many, you are welcome to guess-timate them. Here you will find all the IOS 12.4 syslog messages:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios124/124sup/124sms/index.htm

And here you will find the CatOS 8.5 (for the 6000 series) messages:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/sw_8_5/msg_gd/emsg.htm

And the 12.2SX (for the cat 6000 series) messages:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/122sx/msgguide/emsg.htm

I guess I forgot to add the Access Point syslog messages and the PIX ...
