Re: Monitoring traffic

I have had the most luck with http://www.ethereal.com/ for capturing and troubleshooting packets.

Steps are as follows:

1. Install Ethereal on a laptop/PC

2. Connect to switch that spambox is on.

3. Configure a SPAN session to mirror packets to the port your laptop is plugged into.

4. Start capturing packets.

You can filter the capture to display only HTTP/SMTP if you choose.

If you are just looking for traffic information, www.ntop.org makes a pretty handy free analyzer.

Re: Monitoring traffic

u can use a netflow analyser to monitor traffic ( if this traffic passes through the router)

Re: Monitoring traffic

Please be aware that Ethereal changed its name to Wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org/) in May 2006. According to the latest Ethereal security advisory, you should upgrade to Wireshark: http://www.ethereal.com/appnotes/enpa-sa-00024.html
