NAM and span sessions

I have a 6513 with FWSM and NAM. I am spanning the outside vlan to run a full time packet capture and capture statistics in the overview section. Other engineers and I are debating if this is a good practice or not.

Is leaving a span "on" full time OK?

The 6513 has dual sup720-3bxl's by the way. and the outside vlan is 100Mb internet facing.

Thanks,

Todd

Todd,

There is no problem with running a full time SPAN session.

Check out this doc:

Performance Impact

Whether one or several ports eventually transmit the packet has absolutely no influence on the switch operation. Therefore, when you consider this architecture, the SPAN feature has no impact on the performance.
