NAM2 placement in classic "Core/Distribution" switch cluster

I have four 6509's in my core switch cluster: two act as Core switches, two act as Distribution switches. The Distribution switches connect directly to our 200+ production servers (via 48-port gig blades). I have two NAM2's, one in each Core. I've started to mess around with SPANs etc but still have a lot to learn.

My question is: I would like to get RMON stats on the servers connected to the Distribution switches. Can I do this with the NAM's in the Core, or do I need to move them to the Distribution switches to get full visibility? Also, will such a move require downtime on ANY of the switches?

Thanks!

Are you specifying to access the RMON mode on the switch?

I don't see any reason why you would move them out of the Core switches. They should collect stats fine from there providing you have properly set up the span/rspans
