NCS 1.1 Can't log in as root

Hi,

I'm preparing to migrate from WCS to NCS.

I've got my licenses and I'm ready to go.

I've downloaded and installed the small distritubtion on my VMware platform.

The image loads up and the web starts, but there seems to be something missing from the setup part of it.

When I go to the web login, I'm meant to log in with the root user.

From the documentation, I see that I should have been prompted for a web user login, as root and that in the install or setup process Im meant to set a root password, however. I'm never prompted for this.

In the docs it says:

Installing NCS ...

Root Password is set.

Ftp Password is set.

Apply these settings? (y/n)n

This never shows up on my install.

I've even tried to reset the password manually with the admin user from CLI, but to no avail.

Please help!

I have the excact same issue. Surely we must be hitting a bug of some kind?

I actually figured it out.

You as me, probably downloaded the wrong image.

It's confusing, because there is nothing, as far as I could see in the description indicating which was which.

To be honest, I don't even know what the wrong one is for.

I started out with NCS-WAN-VA-1.1.0.1114-small.ova, and as mentioned, I have no idea what that is for, but it's the wrong image.

What you want is NCS-VA-1.1.0.58-small.ova

I deleted the first install of the WAN-VA image and reinstalled with the VA one and volia, works perfect!

Hope that helps you!

a short info on NCS (WAN) I found on CCO (to let you know what you have downloaded...)

form the Quick Start Guide:

[...]

"Prime NCS (WAN) provides lifecycle management of Cisco routers and switches, simplifying the configuration, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of these devices. Prime NCS (WAN) helps deploy and manage Cisco Borderless Network architectures and services with a focus on WAN and multi-service branch networks. "

[...]

the documentation overview:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/net_mgmt/prime/network_control_system/1.1/documentation/list/ncs_wan_doclist.html

and the release notes:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/net_mgmt/prime/network_control_system/1.1/release/notes/ncs_rn.html

I am not sure, but I asssume that LMS will finally (at the far end) be merged/converted into this product..

Ahh, wasnt aware of that. Reinstalled with the other image and it works now.

Thanks for your help!!

To answer the question about the other image, yes, everything of management and provision is now going towards the PRIME umbrella.

So now it's Prime NCS - Wireless, Prime LMS (previously CiscoWorks LMS), Prime NAM and one more I can't remeber at the moment.
