Network Analysis Module (NAM-1) Software Upgrade

Hi,

Hopefully this should be are really quick question to answer. After doing some research on the Cisco website, I'm lead to believe that I should be able to upgrade my WS-SVC-NAM-1 module to the version 5.0 of software. I have tried this several times on a couple of modules and it always fails.

I've searched numerous documents and can't find any caveats about the minimum spec for version 5.0

Here is the spec. from one of my NAMs:

Network Analysis Module                WS-SVC-NAM-1

Hardware: 1.0  Firmware: 7.2(1)  Software: 3.6(1b)

NAM application image version: 3.6(1b-Patch2)

Maintenance image version: 2.1(3)

BIOS Version: 4.0-Rel 6.0.4

PID: WS-SVC-NAM-1

Memory size: 512MB

Disk size: 20GB

Installed patches:

Thu Feb 16 10:35:49 2012 Patch: nam-app-patch.3-6-1b-1-1 Description: Patch 1 for NAM release 3.6(1b)

Thu Feb 16 10:37:00 2012 Patch: nam-app-patch.3-6-1b-2-0 Description: Patch 2 for NAM release 3.6(1b)

Should I be able to upgrade this NAM to version 5.0? If not, what are the minimum spec. caveats?

Thanks,

Dom

It looks like I need to upgrade my BIOS and I need go to

BIOS Version: 4.0-Rel 6.0.9

So where can I download B01MQ009.ROM from? I've checked on the download centre, but it's not listed anywhere that I can find.

I've already upgraded my Maintenance Image to Version 2.1(5).

So the only missing piece now is the BIOS upgrade. Can someone point me to where I can download this from?

Thanks,

Dom

Dominic,

The BIOS image is bundled with the NAM maintenance  image.  You said you upgraded the maintenance image to 2.1(5), What do you see when  issueing the show version?

Phil.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your response. It would appear that the 6.0.9 isn't bundled with the Maintenance Image:

#show version

Maintenance image version: 2.1(5)

mp.2-1-5.bin : Tue Nov 11 20:29:43 GMT 2008 : integ@kplus-build-lx.cisco.com

Line Card Number :WS-SVC-NAM-1

Number of Pentium-class Processors :       2

BIOS Vendor: Phoenix Technologies Ltd.

BIOS Version: 4.0-Rel 6.0.4

Total available memory: 502 MB

Size of compact flash: 61 MB

Size of hard disk: 19077 MB

The BIOS version is still showing 6.0.4

As an aside when we carry out the upgrade to either version 4.0 or 5.0, the upgrade appears to be successful, but the NAM will just not stay online. Here is snip from the 6500 log:

Finally found the information in the release notes! What a doozy!

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/network_analysis_module_software/5.0/release/notes/nam50note.html#wp43172

All sorted now! Upgrade successful.

Does anyone know the specification of the memory? I think Cisco are having a bit of a laugh at pricing a 2Gb SIMM at $2500!!! is it gold plated or something?
