For network discovery, you need Campus Manager installed which use CDP for this purpose.

Re: New to Cisco Works

Discovery also requires successful SNMP communication between the CiscoWorks server and the routers / switches.

Additional detailed information is located at the following link:

Re: New to Cisco Works

The router should contain the following - depending on how much you want to do. You can do software upgrades w/ the RW strings - without them, you cannot:

basic would be this

-----------------------

snmp-server community xxxxxx ro

snmp-server community xxxxxx rw

(remember - the CW database credentials must match these values)

--------------------------------

More - in addition to above:

--------------------------

snmp-server trap enable (environment, port, location, system-shutdown, etc...)

snmp trap host x.x.x.x string

logging x.x.x.x
