Phantom port-channel?

A new port-channel shows up in "show etherchannel summary" and is visible to SNMP, but is not found in either running- or startup config. None of the physical ports in the PO has been configured either. What could cause this to happen?

sh etherc summ

Flags: D - down P - in port-channel

I - stand-alone s - suspended

H - Hot-standby (LACP only)

R - Layer3 S - Layer2

U - in use f - failed to allocate aggregator

Re: Phantom port-channel?

Could be a remainder of someone else's experiments. It should do no harm.

Try to reload the switch and see what happens.

Re: Phantom port-channel?

Looks like it's a symptom of inserting a six-port firewall module into a cat6k. Three out of four cat6k's have this port-channel appear automagically after receiving the module, unconfigured but powered.

#sh mod

Mod Ports Card Type Model Serial No.

--- ----- -------------------------------------- ------------------ -----------

...

9 6 Firewall Module WS-SVC-FWM-1 SAXXXXXXXXX

Mod MAC addresses Hw Fw Sw Status

--- ---------------------------------- ------ ------------ ------------ -------

1 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX to XXXXXXXXXXXXXX 4.2 7.1(1) 12.X(XX)XX Ok

5 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX to XXXXXXXXXXXXXX 5.3 6.3(1) 8.3(0.111)TF Ok

9 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX to XXXXXXXXXXXXXX 4.0 7.2(1) 2.3(3) Ok

The only cat6k that doesn't show the port channel shows different Sw and Status.
