port mirroring infrastructure

Hi,

could anyone give me some advice about a manageable way to use port mirroring without rspan? if i have two switches and have a dedicated span destination port on each one, and connect them both to a hub and then that hub to a sniffer box, would there be any issues about the data that is recieved on the sniffer? would it simply recive both sets of span data as one, or are there some nasty hang ups that i could be affected by? would it make sense to use a secondary 2950 or something to control the port spans more formally? Essentially i need a way to be able to sniff any port on a range of switches without shifting cables around. any pointers would be appreciated.

Re: port mirroring infrastructure

A hub can be a bottleneck for the data if there is to much.

An extra switch would allow for what you want.

A bit expensive thought. Your boss will tell you to go and swap the cable

Cheers,

Michel
