I dont think it should be a problem! There are two concerns on this :
1> Polling permissions.
2> Data security/privacy on public network.
For issue 1, If you configure the FW to allow ports required for SNMP polling (by default 161 and 162) and the protocol properly, there should not be a problem. For issue 2, you can configure SNMP v3 which has proper Privacy and authentication mechanisms under security, to keep the data secure.
